The story
Nambu ironware has been made in Morioka, in Iwate, for more than 400 years. It grew with the tea ceremony: the local lords brought kettle makers from Kyoto, and a craftsman later added a spout and a handle to a tea kettle, giving Japan the iron kettle that is still the symbol of the craft.
Today the craft also makes colourful enamelled teapots for everyday tea. Our Nambu pieces are made by Iwachu, founded in Morioka in 1902.
