The story

Bizen is one of Japan’s Six Ancient Kilns, in Okayama, with a history of more than a thousand years. Its pieces carry no glaze at all.

The colour comes from the fire: pieces are stacked in a wood-fired kiln for days, and flame, ash and the position on the shelf leave their marks. No two pieces come out alike.
