Style: Wave Teapot Turquoise with Gold Handle$286.35

This Wave teapot is made by Iwachu in Morioka, Iwate, the home of Nambu ironware. It is cast iron, with a wave pattern running around the body in turquoise and a gold handle on top.

Iron holds heat well, so tea stays at a good temperature at the table. The inside of the pot and the underside of the lid are enamelled, so it does not rust and is easy to rinse. A tea strainer is included. Capacity 650 ml.

Not for use on a gas flame, direct fire or induction (IH).

Like all our pieces, it reflects the wabi-sabi philosophy: finding beauty in natural asymmetry, texture and the marks of a handmade process.

Iwachu, Morioka, Iwate

Nambu ironware has been made in Morioka for more than 400 years. It grew with the tea ceremony: the local Nanbu lords brought kettle makers from Kyoto, and a craftsman later added a spout and a handle to a tea kettle, giving Japan the iron kettle that is still the symbol of the craft.

Iwachu was founded in Morioka in 1902. It designs, casts and sells its own ironware and makes about a million pieces a year, from classic kettles to colourful teapots for everyday tea. Genuine pieces carry the maker's quality stamp.

Our story

The fire of stone

Ishi no KA means “the fire of stone”: the place where raw earth meets heat and becomes something lasting.

We choose each piece in Tokyo, working with kilns and workshops across Japan, and we keep their small natural variations, because imperfection is the mark of a human hand.
