This Hyottoko Sake Cup is a small ceremonial cup for sipping sake.
Handcrafted by skilled artisans in Japan, each piece is considered a functional work of art. Crafted from porcelain, it carries the mark of true craftsmanship. Inspired by Japanese pottery traditions, it's designed for quiet evenings and shared toasts.
Like all our pieces, it reflects the wabi-sabi philosophy — finding beauty in natural asymmetry, texture, and the marks of a handmade process. Learn more about the techniques and traditions behind Japanese ceramics.

Hyottoko Sake Cup
The details
About this piece
An ochoko is a small cup for sake, filled and refilled in turn: in Japan one pours for others rather than for oneself. Its size keeps each pour small and the conversation going.
The material
Porcelain is fired at a very high temperature until the clay turns dense, hard and smooth. It is thin for its strength, takes bright colour and fine painting well, and rings clearly when tapped.
Its character
Glazes and decoration vary slightly from piece to piece, so yours may differ a little from the photograph. That is part of how ceramics are made.

Our story
The fire of stone
石の火
Ishi no KA means “the fire of stone”: the place where raw earth meets heat and becomes something lasting.
We choose each piece in Tokyo, working with kilns and workshops across Japan, and we keep their small natural variations, because imperfection is the mark of a human hand.
